Mercedes Updating E-Cabrio

Spy Shots

Mercedes' mid-cycle facelift for the E-Class includes an extensive reskin and more powerful turbocharged V8 for the sedan, wagon, coupe and this, the convertible model snapped here for the first time.

Mercedes-Benz will roll out its "Real Design Revolution" in 2014 starting with the C- and all-new S-Class coupe, with the E-Class to follow in the middle of next year. Having seen a number of prototypes of the facelifted E in wagon, coupe and AMG guise, these are the first spy shots we've received of the E-Class Cabriolet sporting a similarly disguised fascias. When it debuts in the very near future, the most notable change on the 2013 E-Class will be seen in its styling, with quad headlamps replaced by new single-piece multi-functional units.

It's also due to get new front and rear bumpers, new taillights and a more upright grille. Technologically, the E-Class will have an array of cameras, lenses and sensors to feed the numerous advanced driver assistance systems, including improved night vision and dynamic lights. Inside, an elegant cabin will be trimmed in plush leathers and fine woods, with carbon-fiber to appear on sportier versions. As for the powertrains, the E500 and E550 should be coming with a retuned turbocharged 4.6-liter unit, good for 435 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. To keep up with the 300hp BMW 535i and 310hp Audi A6 3.0T, Benz has boosted the E350's V6 from 302 hp to 333.
