AMG SLC 43

The Mercedes-Benz SLC (formerly known as the SLK) has faced an uncertain future for a few years now. Two-seat convertible sports cars like the SLC are a dwindling segment (thanks to the popularity of crossovers) and Mercedes has only managed to sell around 2,000 of them each year in the United States for the past several years. Unlike the SL63, which is being discontinued for the 2020 model year, Mercedes has not yet announced the SLC's cancelation and still lists it as a 2020 model on its US website.

But a recent announcement may give us some insight into the SLC's future. Mercedes has just announced pricing for the SLC Final Edition and Final Edition Premium, which should mark the beginning of the end for the two-seat convertible.

Mercedes says the Final Edition models are on sale now and deliveries will begin in Europe starting early spring 2020. The Final Edition package will be available with three different engine combinations including the 200, 300, and AMG 43. Pricing begins at £37,120 (around $48,790) for the SLC 200 Final Edition or £40,916 (around $53,776) for the SLC 200 Final Edition Premium. The AMG SLC 43 Final Edition starts at £49,855 (around $65,524). Mercedes chose not to reveal pricing for the mid-level SLC 300 variant. The Premium Package adds £3,795 to the price and includes a back-up camera, Comand Online infotainment system, mirror package, panoramic roof, LED intelligent light system, and a wind deflector.

The SLC 200, which was never offered in the US, is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder sending 184 horsepower out to a six-speed manual transmission or an optional 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The SLC 300 uses the same engine producing 245 hp, though a nine-speed automatic is the only transmission option.

The SLC 43 AMG is the range-topper, with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 390 hp resulting in a 4.7-second 0-60 mph time. All Final Edition SLC models include 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, Airscarf, Night package (heated seats, rain-sensing wipers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Garmin satellite navigation), Parktronic, Memory package (electric seats and steering column), and a Harmon Kardon sound system (AMG 43 only). Only one paint color is available, a special shade of Sun Yellow.
