This may be the best looking electric car in the world.
Last year, Mercedes blew us all away with the stunning Maybach 6 Concept. At this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Mercedes has one upped itself with the new cabriolet based on the 6 Concept Coupe: the drop-dead gorgeous Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet. Like the coupe, the cabriolet is an electric car with a total system output of 750 hp. Like a Tesla, the car will have batteries integrated in the floor that will allow the car to have 200 miles of range (according to the EPA).
We really didn't believe that Mercedes could build anything more stunning that the Maybach 6 Coupe. Clearly we need to stop underestimating the Maybach design team. This may be the new ultimate luxury cabriolet.
"The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet takes modern luxury into the realms of the ultimate in luxury, and is the perfect embodiment of our design strategy. Breathtaking proportions combined with a luxurious "haute couture" interior help to create the ultimate experience," explains Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG. We don't know what all of that means, but this is definitely a pretty car. The Maybach 6 Cabriolet is nearly six meters long and incorporates an old school art deco design with an extremely long hood and flowing lines. The curved body features powerful elements in conjunction with a sharp feature line.
Mercedes went with a dark blue paint called "nautical blue metallic" that goes well with the car's chrome headlights. The chrome grill has large vertical struts that are supposed to be modeled after a pinstripe suit. This car rides on new 24-inch center-locking alloy wheels that are painted in rose gold. The color combination looks very nautical with the crystal white nappa leather interior and custom-made fabric top with interwoven gold threads. The interior of the car is supposed to create a 360° open-air luxury lounge with a typical yacht feeling. This concept is clearly a magnificent luxury vehicle.
Mercedes spared no expense on the interior of this car. The seats are wrapped in quilted nappa leather and each individual button on the seats is meant to depict the Mercedes star back-lit in blue. There is also a pore wood floor with inlaid aluminum underscores to further push the yacht feel. This may only be a concept, but Mercedes is already thinking about what technology will be in this car. This car has touch-only control and intelligent navigation linked to an appointment calendar. There is also a Concierge function that allows the driver to talk to the system "like a friend."
This means that the driver can use natural speech to control the car without having to be distracted from driving. We mentioned earlier that the Maybach 6 Cabriolet has 750 hp and can travel over 200 miles on a charge. The car will also have a quick-charge function that can add 100 kilometers (62 miles) of range in just five minutes. The Maybach 6 Cabriolet will be one of the most exclusive cars in the Mercedes lineup. Mercedes says that only 300 will be built for a few very lucky customers. Unfortunately, we do not know when a full production model will be revealed, but we are extremely excited to see what Maybach will come out with in the future.
