This is one sexy little roadster.
We first learned that MG was going to launch an electric roadster last year, and in the past couple of months, the British brand has been teasing the exciting new vehicle. Based on what we saw so far, we thought that the Mazda MX-5 Miata may have some serious competition when the car launches. And now that MG has released official photos of the new EV ahead of its full reveal at the end of the month at the Auto Shanghai Show in China, we are sure it will.
As you can see, this is still very clearly a concept. Those enormous wheels, the intricate headlights and taillights, and the sharply-raked windscreen are the kinds of things that are rarely brought to production, but what does this concept offer beyond a striking design? MG claims that the car offers an approximate EV range of 500 miles and can launch from 0-62 mph in under three seconds. While pop-up headlights may be a thing of the past, MG has found a way around the pedestrian safety issue they pose by creating headlights that open when switched on. The interior of the car is just as impressive too, offering an "interactive gaming cockpit and 5G connectivity."
MG says that the "digital fiber" interior design theme is focused on the driver, separating the driver and the passenger. Ahead of the driver is a large LED instrument display, while a smaller secondary screen resides in the center of the dash. MG Director of SAIC Design Advanced London Carl Gotham says: "The Cyberster is a bold statement that looks strongly into MG's future, touching on our heritage but more importantly building on our technology and advanced design."
More details will be released when the car is revealed in full later this month, but it looks like MG is suggesting a return to the mainstream market. And if its future offering look anything like this, we imagine that commercial success won't be far behind.
