Maybach S

Last week, we reported on Michael Jordan's Mercedes-Benz S600 V12 that was up for sale. When it first hit eBay, it was listed for $23 in honor of Jordan's shirt number when he was still playing professional basketball. Due to its provenance, a high final price was expected, and by the time we posted the article, bids had soared past $55,000. Just a few days later, that number has more than tripled. Currently, the highest bid has exceeded $200k and is sitting on $201,700. When you consider that even a Mercedes-Maybach S in its most opulent trim starts at just a thousand bucks more, that's quite a big sum.

While MJ fans will undoubtedly be quick to jump to the defense of the seller by saying that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - which is likely true - there are a lot of other cars that could be bought with the same money. You could have a fully loaded 911 Carrera Cabrio or a manual Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.

For diehard fans of His Airness though, none of this matters but switching on the car phone to see Jordan's name surely does. Trying to rationalize this is a waste of time, but Jordan fans will likely pay even more if this car ever goes up for sale again.

This listing could still prove to be even more lucrative for Beverly Hills Car Club where the S600 is listed, as there are still three days remaining before bidding on this one-of-a-kind luxury coupe closes. According to BHCC's owner, Alex Manos, this car is "the Holy Grail of Michael Jordan memorabilia." Of course, he would say that as the seller, but he is a hardcore fan of MJ and judging by the ever steeper bids on this car, he's not alone. Still, if it were our money, we'd buy some of Jordan's sneakers and spend the rest on an M2 CS - another car that is sure to be worth plenty more than it's on sale for right now.
