MINI is planning a new version of the John Cooper Works GP. The previous edition under this title was produced in 2006 as a limited-run model. The John Cooper is the sporty version of the MINI while the GP is the hard one. For those who don't know, John Cooper was the man who turned the MINI from a small, though advanced city car into a giant of rallying and sedan racing. Although the MINI was never involved in Grand Prix racing, the GP stands for commemorating the Cooper Cars Company heritage and their achievements in Formula 1.

The team won two world championships for drivers with Jack Brabham in 1959 and 1960 and two F1 world championships for manufacturers during the same period. They were the first team to convert cars to the mid-engine configuration, giving it a huge advantage over its rivals. According to Motortrend.com, the new mini John Cooper Works GP is expected to be a bit more powerful than the JCW version which boasts a 208hp engine. The GP is also expected to be equipped with a revised suspension and enjoy some weight savings. Photos displayed are of the 2006 MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works GP Tuning Kit.
