MINI has already released plenty of photos and even a few videos of their new Cooper roadster variant, and now we hear that they will be giving it its world premiere at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. As the sixth model in MINI's lineup, it will share the Coupe's 121hp engine. A higher-performance Cooper S will put out 181hp while the top of the line John Cooper Works will bang out 208hp. The Roadster's engines are mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission putting power out to the front wheels.

The Cooper S and JCW versions will have optional six-speed automatic gearboxes. The new MINI Roadster also features a trunk-mounted rear spoiler that deploys automatically when the open-top ride reaches 50mph. Along with Dynamic Stability Control and Electric Power Steering, this new MINI is sure to be a fun ride. As mentioned previously, the new MINI Cooper Roadster will debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show which takes place next month in Detroit, Michigan.
