The 2021 Mini Cooper Countryman won't be the first vehicle you'd think of in a discussion about capable off-roaders. But with the help of a German off-road specialist company called X-raid, the Countryman has won a total of five Dakar rallies. The Dakar-winning Countryman is an impressive piece of engineering, but it shares little in common with its road-going counterpart. Now, Mini will offer a special package for owners who fancy a bit of Dakar-conquering off-road ability.

Introducing the 2021 Mini Countryman Powered by X-raid, a new special edition model with some serious upgrades. Mini worked closely with X-raid to bring its Dakar-winning expertise into a production car that customers can actually purchase at a dealership.

X-raid increased the Countryman's ride height by 1.6 inches, giving it more ground clearance and improving the fording depth and ramp angle. The increased ride height is pictured below next to a standard Countryman, which sits noticeably lower than the X-raid model.

X-raid's suspension upgrades also allow for a more robust wheel and tire setup. Mini says these new wheels are specifically designed for grueling off-road use. A new rim ring ensures that owners won't require a new wheel, even if it sustains damage from a rock. Aside from the tangible off-road benefits, the lifted suspension and new wheel/tire setup give the Countryman an awesome new look.

Mini didn't provide many other details about this special model, including how many will be built, what other upgrades X-raid has done, or how much it will cost. Based on the S badges, we assume it will use the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from the standard Countryman S, producing 189 horsepower.

CarBuzz has reached out to X-raid for more information and will update the story when we hear back. As for availability, the press release was posted to Mini's global news site, so we doubt the Countryman Powered by X-raid will come to the United States in any capacity.
