Mini Driver Gatecrashes Mercedes Race In Spectacular Style

The leader will have some choice words for the track officials.

When you think of Mini and Mercedes, the two brands don't really line up. Although both are premium foreign marques, few of their models compete with each other. Things get even more distant between the two brands when you think about a Mini Cooper S versus a Mercedes-AMG CLA 45, especially when the latter has been converted to a purpose-built race car that is competing in a one-make series. However, one unlucky Mini driver brought these two estranged models together in a truly bizarre manner when he accidentally entered the Interlagos circuitduring a televised race. This could have ended so badly.

So how does a street-legal Mini Cooper end up on the same tarmac as a bunch of race cars? Well, it seems that the Mini driver was covering a nearby drag race and took a wrong turn. Due to the fact that there were no clear signs or barriers barring him from entering the circuit, he ended up doing just that. Fortunately, he wasn't a fool and immediately got out of harm's way by pulling over to the shoulder, switching on his hazards, and parking away from the nearest bends. No harm, no foul, right? Unfortunately, the publicist's inadvertent actions had consequences for the competitors on the circuit.

Due to the fact that the Mini had no clear and safe way of getting off the track, he did the only thing he could and stayed put. Unfortunately for the race leader who had built up a decent gap, this necessitated the entry of the safety car, bunching all the drivers together once more until the hazardous Mini could be escorted off the track. We don't have access to the race leader's audio, but we imagine that his team radio would have been crackling with obscenities. We also don't know if he was able to hold onto his lead, but at the end of the day, all that really matters is that nobody got hurt and no cars got damaged.
