Mini JCW Special Edition Ready To Save The Manual Gearbox

Special Editions / Comments

Just 999 units of the 1to6 Edition will be produced, and you can't have it with anything but a manual gearbox.

Mini has introduced a limited edition variant of the John Cooper Works Hardtop that pays tribute to the manual gearbox, aptly named the 1to6 Edition.

This high-performance variant is limited to 999 units worldwide - much like the Cooper SE Convertible revealed in February. Power figures remain unchanged from the standard model, which uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot producing 228 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque.

The highlight here is the manual gearbox. Mini discontinued the three-pedal JCW option in 2022 but recently brought the option back for the US market, even launching a driving school in California to teach people how to drive stick.

To differentiate the 1to6 Edition from regular JCW models, Mini has applied unique styling updates to the hot hatch. The little Mini looks striking thanks to its all-black aesthetic. The bodywork is painted Midnight Black, while the exterior accents have been finished in a sporty Piano Black hue.

A textured grey stripe flows over the vehicle, breaking up the black paint. 1to6 Edition JCW Minis also receive exclusive graphics that are said to highlight Mini's motorsport heritage. The tri-color logos can be found across the vehicle, including the C-pillar and front fenders. Completing the look is a set of 18-inch Circuit Spoke wheels painted in Jet Black. A pop of color comes courtesy of the red JCW brake calipers.

"The Mini John Cooper Works models have their roots in motorsport. With the Mini John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition, we are celebrating Mini's legendary motorsport history and maximizing the brand-typical driving experience," says Stefanie Wurst, head of the Mini brand.

Special touches are littered throughout the compact cabin. Open the door, and you're greeted by the 1to6 logo on the door sills. The passenger is welcomed by a 3D-embossed logo found on the trim inlay, while the driver is reminded of its exclusivity thanks to "One of 999" badging to the left of the steering wheel.

The manual gear shifter is trimmed in black leather and features stitching and a background graphic in a sporty red. Equally racy-looking is the iconic Mini central instrument which boasts red trim.

The 1to6 Edition gains red interior ambient lighting, while the floor mats, key fob, and Nappa leather-trimmed steering wheel bear the special edition's logo. A very special touch can be found on the sunroof, which also features a "one of 999" logo.

Mini's feisty limited edition will make its first appearance at the Nurburgring 24-hour race on May 20. A specially modified version of the 1to6 edition will partake in the racing event. The Bulldog Racing Team will also be in attendance; you may remember they entered a JCW Mini last year.

This is probably the last hurrah for the combustion-engined JCW with three doors. The next generation 3-Door Mini will be sold exclusively as an EV, so we may see the Cooper Hardtop JCW live on as a five-door.
