MINI is preparing to launch an MPV called the Traveller and could possibly debut in concept form at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
According to MINI fan site Motoring File, MINI is preparing to launch an MPV, code named "Spacebox" for 2014. The Traveller MPV will be based on the front wheel drive BMW Compactive Sport Tourer, or better known as FAST. The idea behind the Traveller MPV came from giving customers a more practical car. The theme for the new MPV is a sportier ride that uses the usual MINI solutions to passenger access such as rear-hinged doors and barn doors that can be configured Clubman style.
The dimensions for the Traveller are compact and the front overhang is being kept short. The nickname "Spacebox"derives its name from the more spacious interior and extra glass that gives the Traveller a larger panoramic roof that allows the interior to appear larger than it actually is. The MINI Traveller resembles the upcoming third generation MINI Cooper hatch with its raked headlights and larger grille to distinguish the facial features. MINI is also experimenting with high level taillights in the C-pillars. We can also likely expect to have reverse-hinged storage compartments in some areas of the car.
The MINI Traveller or "Spacebox" could make its debut in concept form as early as the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Production is unlikely any time before 2014.
