When we think of chrome, we usually associate it with things like guns, Google and the Silver Surfer. We don't normally think of Audi, but the German automaker has lent its "creative" touches for a very good purpose. Rock legend Sir Elton John is hosting his White Tie and Tiara Ball, which will donate all proceeds to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Audi was more than happy to donate this truly unique and one of a kind chrome finished R8 Spyder.

Under the chrome hood, the V10 engine is mated to a manual transmission along with Quattro all-wheel-drive. It produces a road blistering output of 525hp. The Spyder is certainly sure to draw plenty of attention any way you look at it. The Elton John AIDS Foundation was started back in 1993 and raises money for programs that provide medication, education, information, shelter and support about the disease in 15 countries worldwide. The auction, now in its 13th year, is set to raise somewhere in the neighborhood of hundreds of thousands of dollars for the foundation's cause.

UPDATE: It has just been announced that the two chrome R8 Spyders were auctioned off for a total of £620,000 or $988,000.
