Mitsubishi recently celebrated 40 years of doing business as a brand in the US and commemorates its time here with 40th Anniversary Special Edition Outlander and Outlander PHEV trims. Each anniversary edition gets a unique paint scheme, badging, and premium accessories Mitsubishi says offers "a special value."

"Throughout the past 40 years, Mitsubishi has earned a reputation in this country for reliable, capable, and convenient vehicles that offer great value, winning the loyalty of many repeat customers," said Mitsubishi North America President and CEO Mark Chaffin. "Our 40th Anniversary Special Edition Outlander and Outlander PHEV are more than just a celebration of that brand heritage; they are a powerful step forward into our next 40 years of success in the US."

Special edition versions of the three-row crossover are based on the top-tier Outlander SEL Premium trim level, which includes a panoramic sunroof, a Bose sound system, a 10.8-inch Head-Up Display, and Mitsubishi's excellent all-wheel-drive system.

On top of the already premium features, 40th Anniversary Editions add Black Diamond paint and a bronze-painted roof, dynamic shield illumination, door scuff plates, metal cargo scuff plates, center console illumination, a chrome Outlander hood emblem, and 40th-anniversary badges.

The Outlander 40th Anniversary Edition costs $39,995, while the plug-in hybrid model costs $49,995.

These new editions also serve as a reminder for many people that Mitsubishi is still in the US, even though it's a shadow of its former self when it comes to a presence here. However, a comeback appears to be on the cards, with more dealers appearing across the nation and the solid success of the latest generation Outlander. The days of fiery enthusiast cars like the Lancer Evolution and 3000GT may be gone, but there's still room for the Japanese brand and its more affordable modern cars.

"Outlander has been a runaway success since it launched earlier this year through a first-of-its-kind partnership with Amazon, and it continues to impress both new and returning customers," Chaffin added. "There's more to come, and we're looking forward to a bright future ahead for Mitsubishi Motors."
