Rumors of its demise were optimistic: it’s going electric instead.
Yesterday, we told you about the death of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, the company’s high-performance derivative of the Lancer sedan. Well, apparently our sources were slightly skewed, as Mitsubishi officials quickly reached out to us and demanded that we retract our article. They say the Evo nameplate will actually live on, but will be renamed ‘EVo’. Matching rumors we had previously heard, Mitsubishi is planning an electric vehicle model by 2020 that’ll carry on the name, while still offering the performance the Evo was renowned for.
More details at this time are limited, but our contacts at the company did mention they are optimistic the car would make approximately 300 horsepower, offer 0-60mph times around 4-seconds and a range of up to 200 miles. Is this EVolution or just a Tesla fettish?
