Did anyone really think Bentley wouldn't do this?
Bentley had a stated goal from the onset of making its Bentayga the fastest SUV on the planet. That may be so at the moment, but competition from arch rival Land Rover, specifically the upcoming and updated Ranger Rover Sport SVR with 575 hp, due for 2017, is an issue. But Bentley will have none of it. According to Auto Express, combined with the demand for luxury SUVs and that Range Rover competition, Bentley will soon launch even faster Bentayga Speed models.
Speaking at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this week, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer told the UK publication that because SUV demand in China is so big, the next new Bentley will likely be an SUV. Although the Bentayga won't go on sale in China until this summer, Durheimer confirmed that "Speed versions of the Bentayga" are coming, and China will definitely receive them as well. The Bentayga going on sale now is powered by a 6.0-liter W12 with 600 hp. Diesel and plug-in hybrid versions are also on the way, but expect the Bentayga Speed to stick with the W12. An extra 50 hp or so sounds about right. No time table to production was mentioned.
