Once every two years at the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, RM Auctions, the American auction house, sets up shop in the Mediterranean principality of Monaco and hosts an auction of Europeans sports and racing cars (and Motorcycles). Just two weeks before the F1 race takes place there, the 8th edition of this prestigious auction will happen from May 11-12. All told, more than 20 vintage racing Ferraris will be found on the auction block.

The 1948 Ferrari 166 Inter Spyder Corsa by Carrozzeria Fontana is the ninth Ferrari in chassis sequence and the sixth 166 SC built. This car raced with Scuderia Ferrari and later with Scuderia Marzotto, for whom it was rebodied in 1950 in the Barchetta style by Carrozzeria Fontana. The car took part in two Mille Miglias and two Targa Florios and was raced by Bracco, Maglioli, Frolian Gonzales and the Marzotto brothers. The 1952 Ferrari 225 Sport Spyder 'Tuboscocca' by Carrozzeria Vignale is a classic one must have if he can afford to separate himself from $2 million, at least.

It has a 12 cylinder engine, the classic Ferrari motor configuration and the Vignale genius is evident in its shape. A 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider began its racing career in Argentina and is expected to fetch $4.3 million to $5.5 million. A 1957 625 TRC Scaglietti Spider was piloted in its heyday by the American Richie Ginther among others, and is probably going to be the most expensive Ferrari in the auction. A 1966 206 Dino Spider is one Ferrari's beauties and is estimated at $2.9 million to $3.7 million. That car is Classiche-certificated, i.e. it went under restoration at the Ferrari facilities in Maranello.

It was raced by Maranello Concessionaires, the Ferrari distributor in the UK at the time, and was driven in the RAC TT by Mike Parkes. A modern and fast Ferrari will be a 2006 Ferrari FXX, chassis # 145766. It has always been kept at the Ferrari factory's Corse Clienti Department and is estimated at $1.7 million-$2.2 million.
