The Hyundai Genesis is a nice car. That's about it, it isn't groundbreaking in any particular way, but you have to admit that it's difficult to think of anything wrong with it. Of course, there are plenty of good cars that don't exactly stir the soul, just ask Lexus. To avoid falling into this trap, Hyundai is looking to make the Genesis appeal a bit more to some of our baser instincts, the kind that can make you buy something impractical.

They've done this in the best way they could, by squeezing a bigger V8 into it. In this case the displacement is up to 5.0-liters and horsepower is rated at an oh so appealing 429. The smaller engines will still be available, and power has been bumped up to 385hp for the 4.6-liter V8 and 333hp for the 3.8-liter V6. All of this means we get to use our favorite word when describing a luxury sedan, usually reserved for German cars, the Genesis is now "understated".
