Limited production run will begin in June.
It may only build a small number of cars each year, but Morgan is still around, which is more than you can say for a chunk of automakers that started out at the turn of last century. Celebrating its longevity and 100 years of building cars in its Pickersleigh Road factory in Worcestershire, England, Morgan has revealed a special edition Plus 8 dubbed the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster. The latest evolution of the Plus 8, the modern design is classic Morgan, with a long, low hood, short rear deck and protruding headlights.
Inspiration comes from a bygone era of stripped back race cars for the road. Underhood, a 367-hp BMW 4.8-liter V8 is mated to either a six-speed manual or ZF six-speed automatic. 0-62 mph is said to come in at 4.2 seconds and top speed at 148 mph. Morgan’s latest aluminum chassis holds everything together with help from a leather belt that keeps the hood in place. Morgan will offer a long list of optional extras, from roll hoops to wheel louvers, along with eccentric styling exclusive to the centenary models when the Plus 8 Speedster goes on sale later this year priced at £69,995.
