Motor Trend's Car Of the Year Is A…Muscle Car?

Muscle Car

It's not what we were expecting.

Motor Trend just named its car of the year and it’s a vehiclethat, at least for us, came out of left field. The publication named the 2016Chevrolet Camaro as the winner of the Golden Calipers as Motor Trend’s Car ofthe Year. The publication commended the sixth generation of the muscle car forit’s great handling, amazing engines and lighter platform. Motor Trend Editor In Chief Edward Loh praisedthe Camaro for its abilities. “Our 2016 Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Camaro,is one of the finest driving vehicles in the world at any price,” stated Loh.

What makes this truly unexpected is the company the Camarobeat to earn the award. The competition included performance vehicles such asthe Audi TT, Mercedes AMG GT S and Mazda MX-5 Miata. The Camaro even edged outthe high-tech BMW 7 Series and Toyota Mirai. Nine judges evaluated the vehiclesin six categories: engineering excellence, advancement in design, value, safety, performance of intended function and efficiency. The Camaro joins otherwinners, which include the Volkswagen Golf from last year and the Cadillac CTS in2014.
