There are times when words don't do a thing to justify beauty, and this is certainly one of those cases. In this particular instance, the speechlessness can be attributed to a number of reasons. One of those is the breathtaking sight we see here, the naked sheetmetal of the BMW 8 Series Concept that was first leaked by CarScoops. The other reason for the lack of words comes from the fact that this set of shots was published with absolutely no description orienting us to their significance or any citing of the source.
Allegedly, they're leaked images of the BMW 8 Series Concept we'll see before the production coupe breaks cover in 2018. However, there's a chance that these are just well-made renderings drawn up by a talented Bimmer fan, filling in the gaps left by BMW's teaser image. As Jalopnik notes, the lines of this 8 Series look suspiciously close to those of the Aston Martin Vantage, but then again Ford already stole the British automaker's grille designs, so why wouldn't BMW steal the rest? The fact that its long hood echoes the sort that can be found on an Aston Martin only serves to reinforce the notion that a V12 option from Rolls-Royce will be available for buyers concerned with bragging rights.
A good guess is that any hypothetical M-badged variants would pack BMW's reworked 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 in place of the heavier twelve-cylinder. Here's to hoping these pictures are the real deal because if so, it signals a welcome departure from the styling of the 6 Series that this coupe will replace. Not that the 6 Series was an ugly car by a long shot, but it lacked the bold and assertive styling that a flagship coupe should bear. The 7 Series holds the throne in BMW's hierarchy and it's confident yet responsible smile serves that job well. On the other side of the spectrum, the i8 stands in as the face of BMW's forward-thinking i brand, representing the future of the brand. But the 8 Series Concept?
It looks as if it wants to rip a Mercedes S-Class Coupe's heart out while it's still beating and feed it to the M-badged pack animals, making it the true leader for BMW's current lineup. BMW Blog has claimed that the concept will be revealed in full on May 25th, so we'll have to wait and see if these images stay true to the 8 Series' design. It's fun to let the imagination wonder, isn't it?
