Don't you just love a Nurburgring special edition? Cars boasting this nomenclature are fierce, fire-breathing machines built to dominate the Green Hell. Famous examples include the Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Nurburgring Edition. The BMW M5 CS doesn't carry the name, but it does have seats with the outline of this famous track stitched into the seatback.

Even regular special editions tend to be cool, and the Asian market is particularly good at these. Except when it's not. Meet the Toyota Corolla Nurburgring Edition. Nope, you didn't read that wrong. A Toyota executive in Thailand wanted to celebrate the Corolla's Super Production 3 category win in the ADAC Total 24-hour race at the Nurburgring, and this is the result.

So, just how fast is it? To put it mildly, it accelerates with the verve of a powerwalking overweight person trying to stick to his New Year's resolution during the first week of January. The engine options are stock standard. You can go for the 121-horsepower hybrid or the insane 138-hp 1.8-liter four-pot. Both engines are connected to the ultimate performance gearbox, otherwise known as a CVT.

To put all of that power down, Toyota Thailand installed lowered sports springs and a throttle control box for better acceleration. You'll overtake an overweight jogger with almost zero effort. The most significant and arguably valuable additions are to be found outside. The Corolla Nurburgring Edition has new bumpers front and rear, a new grille, side skirts, a lip spoiler on the trunk, and fake diffusers below the rear bumper.

The pièce de résistance is an attractive Nurburgring logo on the front fender. As all car geeks know, a wicked sticker containing the word "swag" already adds 50 hp, so just imagine how many horses this sticker adds.

We likely won't see this Corolla in the USA, which is something to be thankful for. Toyota already tried something similar with the Corolla Apex Edition. It had performance shocks and a cat-back exhaust, but it just made the Corolla worse. To us, a Corolla is a handsome, reliable, refined sedan. The Apex upgrades made it noisy and less comfortable. We'd much rather wait for the upcoming Corolla Sport GRMN.
