After playing around with the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series, Motor Trend's Frank Markus spends time with the upcoming Electric Drive variant.
With 740 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, the SLS AMG Electric Drive ranks as the most powerful production electric car on the planet. It's an impressive piece of kit, as Motor Trend's technical director Frank Markus discovers, but not before spending time in the SLS AMG Black Series on the Paul Ricard Circuit in the South of France. Mercedes' fifth and most potent Black Series model boasts a glut of superior upgrades, including a revised 6.2-liter V8 engine that cranks out 622 hp instead of 563 for a 3.6-second 0-62 sprint.
The SLS Black sheds plenty of weight thanks to a liberal application of carbon fiber in its construction. An adaptive suspension, electronic differential and carbon-fiber driveshaft further improve the car's performance, which Markus quickly learns to appreciate.
