Mysterious Nissan Z Caught Testing On Track

Video / 5 Comments

Could it be a new Nismo car?

While Nissan's primary focus is on eco-friendly and family-orientated models such as the Nissan Ariya, the Japanese automaker is also keeping its sports car development on the boil. Last month we reported that the new Nissan Z will hit showroom floors in June. This comes at a time when the brand's headline performance car, the Nissan GT-R, is being slowly retired across the globe. Nissan has been tight-lipped about some of the features and specs of the Nissan Z, and now they've added even more mystery to the upcoming car. New Nissan Z forum member Yuta recently posted pictures and videos of a highly modified Nissan Z on an undisclosed track, and it has people asking a ton of questions.

The Z car spotted in the three second clip shows off a large rear wing clearly not meant for street use, an extra juicy wheel and tire setup, and side wider fenders. The front fender looks like it could be made from carbon fiber, and the exhaust exit also looks to be different from what we've seen in the production car. It is evident that this Z has been tuned for a bit of track action, but what it hides under the skin is still a mystery.

The front view of the car shows a stripped-out interior and a roll cage, as well as large intakes on the hood and a revised front-end design. We know that Nissan has been working to get the Z ready for the Super GT racing series, but that car looks like a full-blown racing machine.

We believe that this could either be a hardcore Nismo track day version, but it is more likely a Japanese tuner testing out new parts on track. The Nissan Z promises to be a seriously capable driver's car, and as with its older siblings the 350Z and 370Z, will be a popular tuner car in the aftermarket scene. With its launch around the corner, tuners must be scrambling to get products ready. Either way, these snaps give us a good idea of what the Z will look like with a few cosmetic upgrades, and we think it looks fantastic.
