True Corvette fans across the globe breathed a sigh of relief when Chevrolet announced that the C8 Corvette would be a mid-engine car, a first for the Corvette brand. Now a couple of years after the C8 was first launched, people still can't get enough of this domestic exotic. The C8 has been the darling of aftermarket tuners for some time now, and body kits for these cars are getting wilder and wilder by the day, but in an industry first, Victor Racing has introduced the first active aero kit for the C8. Called the ACT-C8 Smart Active Aero Wing, this active rear wing will adjust according to driving conditions, and is set to take the C8 Corvette to the next level of performance.

The wing, which is set to make its debut at the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas from November 2-5, will be a first for the Corvette franchise, although the upcoming Corvette Z06 might feature the same type of tech once it finally hits the streets. Traditional fixed rear wings tend to create too little downforce at lower speeds, negatively affecting grip and handling, but create too much drag at higher speeds, reducing the top speed of the vehicle. To offer the perfect amount of downforce at any given time, a rear wing needs to be able to adjust to different driving conditions, and that's exactly where the ACT-C8 Smart Active Aero Wing comes into play.

The ACT-C8 Smart Active Aero Wing is basically a 70-inch carbon fiber airfoil that is controlled by dual fast-acting actuators that can change downforce pressures in an instant. The onboard sensors and software automatically adjust the wing to five different levels using a built-in CPU with GPS, accelerometer, and gyroscope sensors. The five modes on offer are DRS, Downforce 1, Downforce 2, Downforce 3, and Aerobraking. There are three user presets, making it perfect for those visiting a few different tracks on a regular basis. The wing allows users to set a g-force threshold for Aerobraking to initialize in turns, which results in a more stable car under hard braking. Demo, manual, and automatic modes are also available for more custom adjustability. The best part is that this is a simple plug-in part with no need to tap into the wire harness. Victor Racing is selling the ACT-C8 for $3,499 and shipping starts December 1, 2021.
