The Alpine A110 has long been the Cayman competitor we've missed out on here in America. With the debut of the new Cayman GT4 RS, we were willing to let that one go. How can you be mad about a car no one will buy not coming to America when you've got a 9,000 rpm flat-six behind you?

Now, Alpine is edging back into Cayman territory with a new model, set to be unveiled in Japan during the Japanese Grand Prix as Suzuka. This is the first (and likely not the last) teaser ahead of the car's reveal, and it tells us a little bit about what's going to be up with Alpine's new go-fast coupe.

Alpine has said that this will top the Alpine range and that the R will be "an extreme version. Lighter. Sharper. And even more inspired by motor racing." The brand also said it's designed "for unique feelings on the racetrack while remaining road legal."

Taking a look at the images tells a more complete story, however. First, we can assume that certain changes will be made to the body. That means a new splitter, hood, roof, side skirts, wing, and diffuser. If we had to guess, these will all be lighter and more aerodynamically aggressive than standard components.

On top of that, we won't rule out heavy use of carbon fiber here. Alpine fields a number of A110s in race series over in Europe, and those make hefty use of the stuff. If Alpine wants to get as close to the track as it can while staying road legal, a carbon body seems likely.

Other images in the teaser show various parts, like wheels or closeups of the aforementioned body panels. We're particularly curious about the roof, which would be a significant structural change. It appears the A110R will also sport some custom wheels with A100R branding.

We're betting on some retuned dampers and enhanced braking capabilities from the A110R as well. You just can't have a track day special without those things However, the caliper in the above photo looks just like a standard A110 caliper, so we'll have to wait and see what's cooking there.

Finally, Alpine showed some photos of new seats for the A110R, which are predictably hardcore. They look like fixed-back buckets with a full 6-point harness system. If this isn't Alpine gunning for the GT4 RS, we're not sure what else from the brand will. The debut is set for October 4 at 12:30 CET.
