Most European luxury car brands have a firm footing in the long and rich history of motorsports. Aston Martin has a racing history stretching back over a hundred years. And this seems to tie in well with high-end wristwatches. Aston Martin recently teamed up with Girard-Perregaux to create the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges which is essentially a modern rendition of the iconic "Three Bridges" pocket watch from the 19th century. This follows brands such as McLaren doing the same: its watch designed by Richard Mille took inspiration from the McLaren Speedtail and costs more than a small African country. Now Aston Martin has announced a new watch, once again in partnership with Girard-Perregaux, called the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition.

The inspiration for this watch comes from the historical color schemes nations used to represent themselves in motorsport: French cars have traditionally been blue, Italian cars red, German cars silver, and British cars green. Aston Martin adopted green as its racing colour with the Aston Martin DBR1 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. The watch itself features this "Aston Martin Green" throughout, and features seven distinct levels of paint, motorsport-inspired cross-hatching, and diamond-pattern designs taken from Aston's AM logo from the early 1920s.

The seconds hand resembles the side strakes of the 1958 Aston Martin DB4. The watch includes three counters, two chronograph registers and a small seconds display which is all covered by an octagonal bezel that pays tribute to the iconic Laureato watch of 1975. The back features an open caseback covered by a pane of sapphire crystal, and the automatic movement is based on the highly regarded Calibre GP03300. It is all housed in a 42mm 904L stainless steel case with a 904L stainless steel bracelet with a satin-brushed finish effect.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, added: 'As Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux strengthen our partnership, the same is happening with our common design ethos, geared towards discreet luxury. Evidence of it continues to appear in subtle touches throughout the watch, for instance, in its partially open worked hour and minute hands, which have been purposely designed to evoke thoughts of racing cars, eschewing extraneous material to deliver superior performance."

Only 188 of these Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition timepieces will be made available to the public, and can be purchased through all authorized Girard-Perregaux retailers. ll you need is a $950,000 Aston Martin V12 Speedster to go along with that fancy new watch.
