Here's your first look at the upcoming Audi A8 facelift.
It's already been four years since the current Audi A8 was introduced as the German automaker's new flagship sedan. Since then, competition in the luxury sedan segment has intensified with the arrival of the all-new technologically advanced 2021 Mercedes S-Class and the facelifted BMW 7 Series.
Audi needs to up its game and is wasting no time updating the A8 for a new facelift. Testing for the new Audi A8 has already begun, as our spies have spotted a couple of camouflaged prototypes being put through its paces for the first time. At the front, we can see the refreshed Audi A8 will be fitted with updated headlights in the same style as the A3 along with a redesigned grille with a different shape and an alternative pattern to the current A8's.
Elsewhere, the front and rear bumper will also receive some minor tweaks judging from the camouflage. One prototype appears to be a plug-in hybrid variant since it has a high-voltage sticker applied to the windshield. This prototype sports standard LED headlights, while the other is a more premium model with Matrix LED headlights and a different front bumper. Potentially, this could be the new rumored ultra-luxury variant that will top the A8 range.
Our spies didn't gather any photos of the interior yet, but there's a good chance the A8 facelift will get an upgraded infotainment system and all the latest safety tech.
Engine options will likely carry over. The current model is offered with either a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque or a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 with 453 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. A more efficient plug-in hybrid version is also available pairing a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with an electric motor to produce a combined 443 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
The electrified variant can be driven for up to 18 miles on pure electric power, but the updated model will likely offer an increased range. Nothing is official yet, but the refreshed Audi A8 is expected to debut later this year and go on sale as a 2022 model.
