Audi has been working on an e-tron refresh for a while now, and after increasing the range on the current car, the facelifted model has been seen testing in the wild. While we wait in anticipation for the fresh-faced version of Audi's electric crossover SUV to make an appearance, the brand has already started working on a new prototype that will replace the current car.

Audi revealed the new prototype will make its debut at the E-Cannonball in Hamburg along with a few teaser images, where we get to see a few bits and pieces of the new car and what Audi likes to call "new lighting innovations," referring to the car's new headlights.

The company is withholding most of the significant new innovations for obvious reasons, but the little bit it has slipped gives us some insight into what the new car will offer. From the pics shared on the company's Twitter account, we get to see the reworked front end and, more specifically, the new headlights that feature Audi's typical light strip at the top of the headlight unit. We also get a sneak peek of the rear end, which features a restyled diffuser and a set of new taillights.

According to reports, Audi is also planning on renaming the car as the Q8 e-tron to cement its place in the e-tron lineup. As far as technical details go, we have nothing concrete to share, but if the whispers are accurate, we can expect an improved powertrain and an impressive range of up to 373 miles, up from the current 222-mile maximum. The current e-tron features two asynchronous electric motors producing up to 402 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels, resulting in a 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph.

The refreshed e-tron is expected to feature a redesigned grille that is smaller than the current model and gets slimmer headlights and refreshed taillights. Redesigned front and rear bumpers are also in the cards. Inside the cabin, we expect mild changes and an update to the three high-definition screens adorning the current model's dashboard. The updated e-tron is on the cusp of being revealed, and we expect the fresh version to go on sale as a 2023 model later this year, with the new prototype building on what is already an impressive base.
