The Bloodhound Super Sonic Car has announced a new sponsor that no one saw coming, but money talks.
The Bloodhound Super Sonic Car's record attempt has been in the works for a while now. There have been some stumbling blocks along the way, with the biggest being that of finance, as you could no doubt imagine. So far the run has been mainly linked to Jaguar, which makes sense as the man behind the project is Richard Noble, a rather patriotic Brit. Bloodhound SSC will also use a Jaguar supercharged V8 as the fuel pump, showing more links between the manufacturer and the land speed record attempt.
This latest change to the attempt saw the powers that be announce the largest deal in the history of the project, a deal that was finalized in August. Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (ZGH) is now the Bloodhound SSC prime sponsor as well as the Official Automotive Partner as agreed to in the 3-year deal. The leading Chinese automotive group is to provide technical as well as financial support and promote its Inspirational Programme throughout Asia, this puts the 2017 record attempt in South Africa back on track. Jaguar remains as technical partner though, which makes sense as they have a rich history of expertise that the project needs, and is also the reason their engine will stay on as the Auxiliary Power Unit.
Bloodhound SSC is followed in over 200 countries and its roadshows have toured through Europe, Canada, South Africa, Brazil, India and China. The Model Rocket Car Challenge is now rolling out across 5,500 UK schools and 10 countries while the UK's Great Campaign uses Bloodhound to promote UK skills worldwide.
