Since the all-new BMW 4 Series was unveiled, render artists have been busy envisioning alternative variants of the BMW's redesigned sports coupe. Inevitably, it didn't take long for render artists to show us what the new BMW M4 and BMW 4 Series Convertible will look like.

There have even been attempts to digitally fix the BMW 4 Series' controversial grille as opinions are divided about BMW's bold new design language. But what if the BMW 4 Series was transformed into a pickup truck? Artist X-Tomi Design has brought this idea to life with a new render.

BMW's new design language for the 4 Series suits a pickup truck surprisingly well. Its gaping grille doesn't look as jarring and makes the hypothetical BMW 4 Series pickup look suitably aggressive. While this is the work of a fan with some serious Photoshop skills, BMW has teased the idea of adding a pickup truck to its lineup in the past.

Back in 2011, BMW created a pickup truck render based on the last-generation M3 as part of an elaborate April Fools hoax. BMW never put it into production, but that didn't stop enthusiasts from building their own. More recently, BMW converted the X7 into a one-off luxury pickup truck concept designed to celebrate BMW Motorrad Days.

It was built by BMW Group vocational trainees but won't be entering production. Sadly, BMW has ruled out the possibility of building a pickup truck. As the recent demise of the Mercedes X-Class has shown, there isn't enough demand for expensive luxury pickups for BMW to justify entering this niche segment. Development costs would also be too high.

What do you think of this hypothetical BMW 4 Series pickup? Who knows, perhaps this render will inspire someone to build their own crazy custom BMW 4 Series pickup in the future.
