German magazines AutoBild and AutomobilWoche are claiming that BMW has plans to remake the M1. The mid-engine M1 supercar was built between 1978 and 1981, with BMW shifting 460 units. Four years ago the marque revealed the M1 Hommage concept that blended the classic car's lines with advanced design techniques. If the rumors are to be believed, the M supercar is scheduled for 2016, two years after BMW plan to unveil the i8 hybrid sportscar.

BMW holds trademarks on M1, M8 and M10, so take your pick for the supercar's name, while reports on the powertrain suggest a V8 capable of 600hp to 650hp. Top speed should be in the region of 205mph as BMW aim to outgun the Audi R8, new Porsche 911 and Mercedes SLS AMG. A target weight of 1,250kg will be achieved by utilizing materials such as aluminum, magnesium, titanium and various plastics, while the German publications hint the M supercar will be priced at around 250,000 Euros.
