For those thank think a 355-hp M40i isn't meaty enough.
BMW have been expanding its M performance offerings to cover just about every model in its lineup. After testing the waters with the 355-hp, 368 lb-ft X3 M40i, a fully-fledged X3 M will be released at some point in 2019. But that’s next year. In the meantime, Dähler Design & Technik GmbH can offer you a 414-hp, 464 lb-ft X3 right now. The German tuner has been offering well-engineered performance upgrades for 20 years and its latest Competition Line Package focuses on the third-generation X3 range.
Aside from extracting increased performance from the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, Dähler also made modifications to the suspension setup to ensure that the additional power does not upset the inherent balance found in the M40i. There is also a stainless-steel performance exhaust system with four tailpipes which should add a more aggressive tone to proceedings. While no performance data has been released just yet, the standard M40i reaches 60 mph in a quick 4.6 seconds, so the additional 59-hp should bring it much closer to the 4-second mark.
Thanks to Dähler’s decades of expertise, these modifications comply with the upcoming strict WLTP emissions procedure too. Subtle visual changes such as blacked out trim and satin chrome look side mirror casings contribute to a more purposeful aesthetic and the large alloy wheels suit the X3 well. Dähler offers modifications to the lesser X3 models too that promise a more dynamic and precise driving experience. For those of you who just cannot wait for the upcoming X3 M, the Dähler modified M40i may be just the thing.
