When revealing the full skinny on the new-gen X5, BMW failed to include images of the X5 M Sport and M50d performance diesel variants. These have now surfaced giving us a chance to see how the M Sport trim adds a sportier look thanks to new front and rear bumpers, high-gloss roof rails, Shadowline trim, revised side skirts, and new 19- or 20-inch M-Double Spoke alloys. The interior also boasts a raft of M goodies such as a multifunctional leather steering wheel, and leather and Alcantara front sports seats.

The M Sport package also adds M branded footrest and doorsills, Aluminum Hexagon trim and anthracite headliner, while buyers will get the choice of an Adaptive M Suspension with Dynamic Damper Control and a rear air suspension. That optional suspension comes standard on the X5 M50d (not for US), which boasts a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six with TwinPower Turbo tech that includes three turbochargers for output figures of 376 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic, with 0-62 mph rated at 5.3 seconds and economy at 35.1 mpg combined.
