The all-new seventh-generation Ford Mustang will debut at the 2022 Detroit Motor Show in September.

Ford is currently putting the 2024 Mustang through its final round of testing, leading to an array of spy shots and videos. Even though Ford is doing the most to keep the design under wraps, the front end of the new 'Stang leaked as early as April this year.

Automotive News spoke to a person with intimate knowledge of the Mustang's planned rollout, who revealed that Ford chose Detroit to showcase its latest pony car. It's an important model for Ford, as the Mustang continues to be the most successful sports car globally.

Ford's spokesperson, Mike Levine, did not comment on whether these allegations are true. "We've previously said the all-new, seventh-generation Mustang is on the way, and we can't wait to share more details soon," said Levine. The key word in that statement is obviously "soon."

According to anonymous insiders at Ford, the Mustang will be launched with carryover engines. That likely means the range will still consist of the 5.0-liter V8 and the four-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine.

We also know the next Mustang will be the first to introduce hybrid powertrains.

Whether these models will be AWD due to hybridization remains to be seen. If they are, Ford will likely give you the option of disconnecting the front motor so you can partake in the most traditional of Mustang driver pastimes, which is doing an epic burnout and ending up in a ditch.

The time is right for an all-new Mustang. It doesn't feel like it, but the current model has been around since 2015.

Ford likely chose the Detroit Motor Show because of the Mustang's close ties to the city. The new model will be assembled at the same factory as the outgoing model in Flat Rock, Michigan.

More powerful models will inevitably follow, given the success of cars like the Shelby GT350, GT500, Mach 1, and Bullitt.

The 2022 Detroit Motor Show will run from September 14-25.
