Ford has just announced that their new 2013 Police Interceptor Sedan and Utility models will pace the NASCAR Championship Weekend in about two weeks' time. The two Fords are based on the Taurus and Explorer. The Taurus-based Interceptor pumps out 365hp and reaches a top speed of 148mph. It will serve as the split pace car. The Explorer-based Interceptor runs a plus-300hp 3.7-liter V6 and will serve as the lead pace car in all three races.

"Police nationwide asked for a new kind of weapon in the battle for public safety, and Ford is answering the call with purpose-built vehicles - engineered and built in America - that are as dynamic as they are durable," said Ford president of The Americas Mark Fields. Ford Racing director Jamie Allison added "We're thrilled that we're able to help launch the new Police Interceptors at Ford Championship Weekend, and know that the fans will be excited to see these unique vehicles performing out on track." The NASCAR 2011 Ford Championship Weekend will be run at Homestead Miami Speedway from November 18-20.
