The X Gran Berlinetta VGT concept will enter the world of Gran Turismo next month.
Genesis unveiled the full-scale model of the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo concept at the GT World Series World Finals in Barcelona, Spain.
The X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo is Genesis' take on a supercar, reminiscent of the Essentia Coupe revealed at the 2018 New York Auto Show. However, the new concept comes with a more pronounced styling based on the brand's Athletic Elegance design philosophy.
Exterior-wise, the new Genesis concept gets design cues similar to road-going models such as the Genesis G90 and GV80. Apart from the intricate character lines, the design is underscored by the LED strips that outline the brand's signature Two Lines and Crest grille.
Genesis says the eye-catching magma color is inspired by the brand's distinctly Korean ethos. It references "Korea's volcanoes and the emotion, passion, and vibrancy of the nation's culture." The parallel lightning motif continues toward the back, with the rear fascia sporting an oval. According to Genesis, the bodywork delivers a drag coefficient of 0.34 - a bit far from the list of most aerodynamic cars in the world.
Inside, the supercar has a carbon cabin derived from the brand's Beauty of White Space. Genesis provided a race-focused cockpit with a digital panoramic interface for information and a surround digital monitoring system. It also has a steer-by-wire system that promises "precise and decisive maneuvering."
A front mid-mounted Lambda II V6 engine propels the supercar, which is electrically assisted by Genesis' E-SC technology. While the combustion engine alone is capable of making 870 horsepower and revving up to 10,000 rpm, the combined output with the 201-hp electric motor is 1,071 hp and 986 lb-ft of torque.
"Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport," says John Krsteski, Genesis Senior Chief Designer.
"We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design elements as well as technical performance attributes. It has become a catalyst of inspiration for our other programs."
The X Gran Berlinetta VGT concept will be available in Gran Turismo 7 starting January next year. Players who watch the Manufacturer's Cup broadcast in GT7 will receive early access to the supercar concept as a gift within the month. Hopefully, we will see it on the road like McLaren did with the Solus GT, which also debuted in the virtual racing world.
The Genesis concept will soon join new additions to the Gran Turismo 7 roster, including the Tesla Model 3 Performance, the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and the 2010 Lexus LFA.
