When it comes to toys, few types are as attractive - to gearheads especially - as Hot Wheels cars. The brand's commitment to ridiculous designs and insane tracks has made the Hot Wheels range an endless source of fun for adults and kids alike, and with ties to motorsport in the real world, the brand is truly iconic. There's even a live-action movie reportedly in the works, but the brand's latest project is a bit more interactive: a new videogame. It'll be titled Hot Wheels Unleashed and looks like something that young and old gamers alike can have a blast with for hours.

The new game will be releasing on September 30 on both the current Playstation and Xbox consoles, as well as the older Playstation4 and Xbox One consoles. Nintendo Switch consoles and PC users will be catered to as well, and there will be multiplayer split-screen modes both for online and offline gaming. In the trailer above, we get a teaser of some of the cars we can expect, with the hero car appearing to be a typically overt mash-up of the Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Camaro from the '70s. The usual wacky designs that are far removed from anything you'll see on the real road are there too.

As cool as playing with Hot Wheels toys in the virtual world looks, there's one part of the real-life experience that many still enjoy: building their own tracks from that famous orange plastic. Fortunately, the developers have considered this aspect too, and say that you can build your own custom track designs and share them with the Hot Wheel community. Michele Caletti, Milestone's Executive producer, says that everyone is "so committed in (sic) delivering the purest and most authentic Hot Wheels gameplay experience ever in a videogame." We look forward to finding out if the new game is just as good as the real thing.
