Jeep has added a dash of flair to its Renegade lineup by introducing a new Upland edition as well as an eye-catching exterior color called Solar Yellow. Although a broader range of upgrades was already applied to the 2023 Renegade last year, Jeep has always been known for its sporadic and fun special editions.

In the case of the Jeep Renegade Upland, it's based on the popular base Latitude trim but looks more exciting thanks to a matte black hood decal, front and rear fascias that are described as off-road-ready, automatic headlamps, cornering fog lamps, gloss black badging, and 17-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. A windshield wiper de-icer is a practical addition for those living in colder states.

A couple of upgrades have also been made inside the cabin, both visual and practical.

The Jeep Renegade Upland has premium topographic black cloth bucket seats with bronze inserts, making them more interesting than the Latitude's more conservative plain black cloth.

Whereas the Latitude has a small 3.5-inch monochrome TFT display in the instrument cluster, the Upland swaps this out for an upgraded seven-inch TFT color display. A nicer Techno-leather steering wheel, ambient lighting, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with GPS navigation round out the specification highlights of the Upland.

Like the Latitude upon which it is based, the Upland comes with a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and nine-speed automatic transmission. This engine delivers 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. The Renegade isn't a ball of fire by any means, but at least 4x4 is standard.

Perhaps the best thing about the new Upland is that it only costs $595 more than the Latitude for a final price of $30,590, making it a no-brainer for customers interested in the Renegade but not wanting to spend more on one of the upper trims.

Along with the new Upland, Jeep has also reintroduced the Solar Yellow exterior paint, which is available on every Renegade model. We can see why, as this vivid shade neatly complements the youthful image of this Jeep and works well with the darker details of the Upland. This option, which ranks as one of the coolest paint colors in the small SUV segment, will add an extra $495 to the bill, though.

"The 2023 Jeep Renegade is a fun compact SUV with a big personality," said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. "These well-known characteristics are even more evident with the Upland edition, which is packed with legendary Jeep 4x4 capability, rugged good looks, and premium appointments - all at an affordable price point."
