Just look at these teaser images.
We know Kia is working on the next-generation Optima sedan, which is set to debut in the next year or so with a reveal at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show a distinct possibility. Like its corporate sibling, the Hyundai Sonata, the new Optima will feature radically new styling that Kia promises will make you say wow.
Kia has posted teaser images of the Korean market K5 to keep us excited and renderings based on the teasers look great. But a new set of teasers posted on the Korean Hyundai Motor Group Facebook page reveal that the Optima may be wilder than we first thought.
Pictured here in a radical shade of purple, the Kia K5 (the Korean market name for the Optima) looks even more coupe-like than the initial teasers. The caption is written in Korean but translates to "New # K5 rendering image added Fastback style based on the evolution of dynamism. Kia Motors # 3G_K." We aren't sure if Kia has just teased some new four-door-coupe version or if this is just a pretty sketch to get us even more excited for the new Optima.
The Optima's Hyundai counterpart features a coupe-like fastback roofline but it isn't quite as aggressive as this new teaser. We'd imagine the production car won't look this exciting, though it should still be eye-catching.
We expect the base Optima to use the same 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the Sonata, producing 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque linked to an eight-speed transmission. Later on, Kia will reveal a sportier Optima GT, powered by a new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rumored to produce around 275 hp. The same engine will also be used in the upcoming Sonata N-Line.
