While we await the release of the new Kia Sportage, China has just unveiled its new Kia Sportage Ace, a model completely different to anything they've had before (the Sportage has always been sold there as the KX5). This new offering is also something different from what we're going to get - at least if the spy shots we've seen are anything to go by. This new Chinese model is still worth looking at though, as it debuts a lot of new styling flourishes - something we've come to expect from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis. Unveiled at the 2020 Guangzhou Auto Show today, the model in question is a GT Line.

The first thing you notice about this new model is the sheer size of the humongous front grille. The grille feeds into new LED headlights on either side, with a brushed aluminum-look accent strip above the entire front fascia of the SUV. Aggressive scoops below the headlights add a sporty element to the front, while an orange strip at the bottom of the bumper highlights that this is a GT Line model. That accent follows to the rocker panels and the rear diffuser. That fake diffuser houses fake exhaust tips, but getting under the Sportage Ace also draws some attention to the tires. Although clearly all-terrain rubber, these tires look a bit too skinny to be useful off-road.

The rear looks incredible though, with vertical taillights likely inspired by the Telluride, a roof spoiler, and a large Sportage badge that adds width to the back of the SUV. There's another aluminum-look strip here, while a fog light on the left and a reverse light on the rear do a good job of making the tail end look sporty without utilizing fake vents. The overall package looks great, and we hope that at least some of these styling flourishes make their way to our Sportage. Sadly, no pics of the interior have yet surfaced, but with lightly accented mirror caps featuring on the body, we expect the cabin to feature the same level of attention to detail.
