Next month, Land Rover will lift the wraps off the all-new Defender SUV. We already knew it was going to be revealed in September, but we now have an exact date as Land Rover has confirmed the rugged off-roader will debut on September 10 at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show. The reveal will also be live-streamed at 08:50 (BST) / 09:50 (CEST).

Ahead of its world debut, Land Rover's teaser campaign has switched into high gear with a new photo and video giving us a fleeting glimpse of the new Defender being put through its paces in the remote Valley of the Castles in Kazakhstan.

This is the culmination of an exhaustive global testing program, which saw new Defender successfully complete 45,000 individual tests and endure temperatures ranging from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) to ensure it lives up to lofty expectations. After all, the original Defender is one of the most iconic off-roaders ever made.

Recently, we've seen new Defender prototypes support Tusk operatives in Borana, Kenya and drive across the dunes of Dubai by the fleet experts from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

A teaser photo released by Land Rover shows a close-up of the new Defender splattered in mud, giving us a look at the front grille. However, Land Rover probably didn't anticipate that leaked photos of an uncovered Defender taken from the set of the new James Bond film would leak onto the internet this week. It's clear that the new Defender will retain its predecessor's boxy shape, but it looks more high-end and the front looks radically different, with a design mimicking the current Range Rover.

Three versions of the Land Rover Defender will be available including 90, 110, and 130 variants, with the 10 launching first. According to leaked documents, the only engine option available will be a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. 0-62 mph in this model will reportedly take 7.4 seconds. Look out for the official reveal in September.
