It hasn't been sold new since 2015, but the legacy of the Camaro Z28 remains strong. Though it's becoming increasingly unlikely that the current sixth-generation 2023 Chevrolet Camaro will spawn a new Z28 variant before being discontinued, Bowtie enthusiasts can now relive the glory days of the original Z/28 (with a slash) in Lego form. The popular toy brand has just released a 1969 Camaro Z28 set, perfect for car lovers who prefer a 'built not bought' mindset even for their scale models.

"The 1969 Camaro Z28 has been turning heads on and off the roads for decades, which is why we are so proud to see it come to life in a brand-new way via Lego bricks," said Chevrolet Camaro Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles. "Anyone who loves the iconic design of the 1969 Camaro Z28 now has the thrill of building this set and displaying it in their home."

The kit includes a whopping 1,458 pieces, meaning it's recommended for ages 18 and up. When completed, the Lego Camaro measures over 3.5 inches tall, 14 inches long, and 5.5 inches wide. It includes a number of realistic features, such as a working steering wheel, detailed engine, and doors that open and close. The '69 Camaro came with a 302 cubic inch (5.0-liter) V8 engine producing a GM-rated 290 horsepower, though the true figure was close to 400 hp. No wonder why the Z28 has such a long and storied history.

"With its classic lines and sleek design, the 1969 Camaro Z28 is unrivaled in its elegance - which is why it was such a wonderful inspiration for this Lego design," said Lego Designer Sven Franic. "By building this set, you can envision yourself at the wheel, and all but feel the rumble of the engine taking you down an open road."

All of the kits include a black car with a red interior, but builders can customize the design with red, white, or grey racing stripes. Builders can also choose between hard top or a convertible with a removable roof, the latter of which gives a better look and the classic '60s interior. As shown in the photos, the Lego kit includes the classic or hideaway headlights, depending on which the builder prefers.

The Lego Chevrolet Camaro Z28 kit goes on sale August 1, 2022 and is priced at $169.
