This may look like a disguised McLaren 12C Spider, but it's actually a test mule for the British carmaker's next model, codenamed the P13, spied near the Nurburgring. When the prototype was initially spotted, it was initially assumed to be a refreshed 12C Spider, but a McLaren spokesperson has since informed Auto Express the car is "a mule prototype of P13 undertaking early testing." The entry-level supercar will be built around a carbon-fiber 'MonoCell' chassis and powered by a detuned version of the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that powers the 12C and P1.

Targeting the new Audi R8, Porsche 911 Turbo and GT2, the P13 will have around 500 horsepower, which will be enough of a step down from its bigger siblings to keep them happy; the 12C currently has 616 hp and the P1 a total of 903 hp. Styling will be a cross between the 12C and P1; however the P13 is still a way off, and is not expected to be unveiled until the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
