All that the SL is renowned for: sportiness, style, comfort and innovation is showcased in this new film, reminding potential suitors of the roadster's many highlights. There's also a dramatic ending.

A new aluminum body is the major talking point, as it shaves a whopping 140kg off the weight of the previous SL's steel body, reaffirming its 'SuperLight' status. Next comes the fuel efficiency, courtesy of an ECO Stop/Start system that shuts the twin-turbo V8 down at stops to save gas, and a brand new seven-speed automatic transmission. Safety features on show include the Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control, which makes sure drivers are following traffic at a safe distance and also warns them if they're closing in on slow traffic too fast; Active Lane Keeping Assist gently reminds inattentive drivers whenever they drift out of their lane.

Then we come to the cool gadgets, including a fully-integrated electric draught-stop, which can be deployed at the touch of a button, and the COMAND system giving the latest weather information so that the panoramic vario-roof with Magic Sky Control can be deployed before the heaven's open. Finally, we get to see the 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 assist the hapless driver escape imminent death. He may not be the sharpest tool in the box, but his stylish dress sense and even better taste in cars will surely help keep him warm at night.
