The Mini Cooper is one of the most recognizable small cars on the road today, with iconic looks inspired by the original car that was built as an affordable runaround. While it might have started life as a city car, it quickly became famous as an enthusiast car and racked up racing achievements across a multitude of disciplines. Mini is constantly bringing out new special editions of the Cooper, including the recently-introduced Brick Lane Edition to celebrate London's home of street art and the Boardwalk Edition. But Mini's latest special edition arrives on International Women's Day and pays tribute to a special person in the brand's history, female British racing driver Pat Moss who gave the brand its first victory in an international rally.

Mini's most successful motorsports exploits have been in the field of rallying, but it was sixty years ago in May 1962 when it attained its first international victory with Pat Moss behind the wheel with her co-driver Ann Wisdom. To celebrate this great achievement, Mini will be building 800 Pat Moss Edition vehicles

In 1962, Moss entered the International Tulip Rally, which stretched from the Dutch municipality of Noordwijk to the French Riviera and back. Moss achieved the best time in the classic Mini Cooper. The Pat Moss Edition vehicles, available in either Cooper S Hardtop (two- and four-door) or John Cooper Works Hardtop form globally, will be sold as 2023 models. In the US, the Pat Moss Edition will be exclusively available as a John Cooper Works Hardtop 2-Door model.

Pat Moss Edition models feature a Multitone Roof fading from Chili Red to Melting Silver and Jet Black, red mirror caps, and a stylized tulip with a "Pat Moss" inscription on the C-pillars and side scuttles to commemorate the victory. The starting number, 104, details of the Tulip Rally including its length and main stops along the route, and the "born to compete" slogan are featured on the front fenders. On the hood, a horizontally-aligned stripe in white shows off the registration of the winning car - 737 ABL - while Moss's signature is found on the front bumper.

The interior features Piano Black upholstery, a sports leather steering wheel with a tulip graphic, and M and W Graphics representing "Moss" and "Wisdom", or Mossie and Wizz as they were known to fellow racers. Standard features include Mini Parking Assist and Active Cruise Control as well as the full suite of standard kit from the Iconic spec. As a JCW model, 228 horsepower is availed from a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, routed to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

Mossie and Wizz's achievements were legendary, but Wisdom later said, "We didn't see ourselves as pioneers back then, we were just entering a rally." Moss passed away in 2008 followed by Wisdom in 2015. The Moss Edition will arrive at US dealerships in August 2022, and US pricing will be announced closer to that time.
