This will be NASCAR's version of the excellent 'Formula 1: Drive To Survive' series.
Netflix offers a wealth of original car-focused content to keep gearheads entertained while we're all stuck at home during the pandemic. Michael Bay's '6 Underground' opens with an incredible destructive car chase featuring an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio causing mayhem in Florence. There's also 'Hyperdrive,' a reality TV show that is like Fast & Furious in real life. You can also catch up on the Fast & Furious movies before 'Fast 9' hits theaters in June.
For racing fans, 'Formula 1: Drive To Survive' provides a fascinating behind-the-scenes look into the world of Formula 1. Now, Netflix has announced a new Nascar documentary series is going into production.
The series will follow Nascar Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace throughout the 2021 season as he competes for the 23XI Racing team co-owned by former NBA star Michael Jordan and Nascar driver Denny Hamlin.
The series will "take viewers behind the scenes of the 2021 Nascar season through the eyes of the only Black driver at the top level of the sport." It will also "explore Wallace, 23XI Racing, and Nascar's efforts to advocate for inclusion and equality in racing and beyond." A release date or a title hasn't been announced for the new documentary series yet.
At the time of writing, Wallace, who drives a Toyota Camry Nascar Cup car, is in position 20 in the 2021 Nascar Cup Series. From the description, the show sounds like it will be Nascar's version of 'F1 Drive To Survive' that helped turn a lot of people into Formula One fans. This show has the potential ti do the same for Nascar and give the motorsport more exposure outside of the US.
This is the second time Netflix has teamed up with Nascar. Starring, Kevin James, the Nascar comedy series 'The Crew' premiered earlier this year and is available to stream.
