New Porsche 911 GT3 Has Something In Common With A Superyacht

It's definitely not the handling.

Booting up the Porsche 911 GT3 online configurator presents you with an extensive choice of exterior color options for your new track toy including white, black, Guards Red, or Racing Yellow. For an additional cost, you can have your 911 GT3 painted in metallic colors including Carrara White, Jet Black, Agate Grey, Dolomite Silver, GT Silver, and Gentian Blue. Then there are Porsche's 'Special Colors'.

Costing an extra $3,500 each, these premium color options include Shark Blue, Crayon, Lava Orange, and Python Green. Shark Blue is a brand new color option for the 911 GT3, which explains why it was shown off in every exterior press shot.

We're not complaining because it looks stunning, accentuating the 911 GT3's more aggressive, aerodynamic design. Speaking with Autocar, GT boss Andreas Preuninger has revealed this stunning shade was inspired by a boat that caught his attention while he was on holiday.

"I was lying on the beach in Sardinia and this big, beautiful superyacht passed by - 300ft, very elegant - and it had this gleaming blue hull," he said. "I was on my feet with my camera, because I thought, 'that's exactly the color we need', and the rest is history."

To match the exterior, the interior can also be trimmed in black with contrasting Shark Blue elements. After we played around with the configurator, the price of our fully-loaded Porsche 911 GT3 came to around $218,000. US pricing for the Porsche 911 GT3 hasn't been confirmed yet, but the base price is expected to be around $170,000.

Powering the new Porsche 911 GT3 is a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six producing 502 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque, enabling the track-focused sports car to sprint from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds when fitted with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and top out at 197 mph.
