We're all used to seeing many Porsche 911 variants on the market. Whether it's the base 911 Carrera, Carrera 4, Turbo or GT3, each one has its own unique flavor. There's basically a 911 trim out there to suit every enthusiast's tastes. But just before the previous generation 997 911 ceased production, Porsche unveiled the 911 Speedster (pictured here). In fact, Porsche launched a 911 Speedster for almost every 911 generation dating back to the 3.2 Carrera – the 996 was the exception.

According to a new report coming from German publication Auto Bild, Porsche is planning to debut a new 911 Speedster in early 2015. If the rumors prove correct, production will be limited to just 550 units in commemoration of the iconic 550 Spyder. It'll supposedly feature a manually operated fabric top that'll disappear under a carbon hood and a re-angled windshield, amongst other still unknown changes. Porsche has so far neither denied nor confirmed this rumor, but it'd be awfully nice if this one came true.
