Unless you feel like waiting for the reveal of the new Ford Bronco, the only SUV on the market with a fully removable roof is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited. Jeep customers can select from either a fold-back cloth top with removable rear pannels or a multi-piece removable hardtop roof. The hard roof offers more sound insulation and better protection from the elements but it is not designed to come along for the ride after it has been removed. The cloth roof can be manual or electrically-operated (if you opt for the Sky Top) and can be stored within the vehicle but it is louder and less insolating than the hard panels.

Jeep seems to offer an ideal option for most buyers but if you want a soft top that is easier to remove, aftermarket company Bestop has you covered with its new Supertop Ultra for the JL Wrangler.

Bestop first announced its Supertop Ultra roof for the previous-generation JK Wrangler but has now designed one for the current model. The Supertop Ultra roof features a patent-pending guide track system and dual gas-assist struts, both of which help make it easier to fold back. Like the stock roof, Bestop's was designed to stow perfectly behind the rear seats and also includes a "Sunrider feature," which allows drivers to have an open-air driving experience in just a few seconds. The Supertop Ultra roof also uses zipper-less channels, making it much easier to take off the rear windows.

As you can see from the pictures, the roof can be folded into one of four different configurations, each offering varying levels of disassembly and access to the outside world. The top can now be ordered for the JK model, which dates back to 2008. Pre-orders for the JL version (2018-current) are now open with deliveries set to begin in late February. The Supertop Ultra is priced at $1,999.99 including a $75 deposit to reserve yours.
