New Spy Video Shows Facelifted BMW X6 M Whipping Around The Nurburgring

Spy Shots / Comments

Three different models were caught racing around the racetrack with some camouflage.

The 2024 BMW X6 M has been caught doing some hot laps at the Nurburgring thanks to a video from regular Nurburgring spotters CarSpyMedia. The short video shows a few different models of the car, all mostly undisguised except for the front fascia, whipping around the Green Hell prior to the Life Cycle Impulse's debut sometime in 2023.

The upcoming model is most likely going to receive the S68 twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 engine. The different cars that were being thrown around the track most likely have the unit in place already, but aside from a little sound, it's hard to confirm. This engine will be used in many new BMWs, like the upcoming X5 M and M5, although the latter will see an upgraded version with a plug-in hybrid powertrain from the BMW XM.

Luckily, it's looking like the X6 M won't be getting as large a version of the kidney grilles as seen on models like the XM and X7. From other recent spy shots, it's easier to see what is and isn't changing. We have been able to see that the headlights haven't gone with the double-slit direction just yet, instead opting to stay with similar-sized units we've come to know.

The front and rear fascias will likely become more aggressive, but the rest of the body panels will remain unchanged. We also expect new lighting signatures.

The interior will get a major infotainment upgrade to the massive curved screen seen in the 7 Series. The 'single' screen is actually broken up into two, a 12.3-inch screen in front of the driver and a 14.9-inch screen to the right that now houses all of the car's other features.

Whereas the next M5 will go plug-in hybrid, this is only a facelift, so it'll have an updated version of the mild-hybrid V8, with the 48-volt electrical architecture handling ancillary functions rather than boosting power and performance.

The mild hybrid has varying power outputs. In the upcoming M60i variant, the unit will produce 530 horsepower, but In the Alpina XB7, the same engine produces 630 horsepower. Seeing as the current X6 M produces up to 617 horsepower, we expect the 630 number isn't too far off.

There will be quite a few upgrades to the model, so we're looking forward to finally seeing it revealed. Chances are good we will see something in the first half of next year before it arrives as a 2024 year model.
